Smaller kitchen spaces, remodeling, receiving antiques: all reasons for having hutches. Contemporary hutches are generally made in two pieces and then placed together prior to delivery or shipping, depending on the brand and prices. The prices will vary, but the most expensive models of dining room hutches are made of cherry or oak, and are one piece and very heavy where weight is concerned. If you purchase a model that requires assembly, it is advisable that help be sought due to the weight of the finished product. Although there are some models that come in simple pressboard that have a laminate covering, these are few and far between and are not as reliable as wood or metal models.
Modern hutches can be found in oak, cherry, aluminum and even ash materials with a variety of hardware for accenting. Hardware for dining hutches will vary based on model, retailers and prices asked for each piece. There are many sideboards that are attached with nickel or steel hardware, but come in many finishes. Most models sold on the market today come with their own corresponding hardware and instructions for assembly, but for higher prices, assembly is not required.
In addition to making the dining room look less empty, sideboards create an inviting atmosphere which in turn makes everyone at the table feel more relaxed. They are not, however, just an aesthetically appealing addition but very practical too. Sideboards are typically used to keep the tableware at hand which helps save space in kitchen cabinets as well as the kitchen itself, enabling the "chef" to focus exclusively on cooking. In addition, a sideboard in the dining area reduces the risk of burnt food and other cooking accidents because the "chef" is not disturbed by a family member who is in charge for setting the table.
The sideboard would be the place where food would be placed before the meal. The hostess would serve each item of the menu from the sideboard. The dining table would only hold the plates, cups, and other eating utensils along with the centerpiece only. At the end of the meal the sideboard would be the staging area for any desserts and cordials.
